One of our dear friends, Bob, had a serious medical condition, myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS*). He returned home from the hospital treatment and was left in the care of his wife, Donna. In time Donna's medical leave expired and she had to go back to work. Bob was frail and at risk. She worried all day if he was OK. She called when she could but spent most of the time worrying about her husband. A number of us started to talk about the situation at our start-up company, zeezao inc. Why wasn't there a solution to keep Bob safe and provide peace of mind for Donna? It suddenly dawned on us that we could apply our knowledge of mobile application design to the problem. We created a team to solve the problem. The result is CareBeacon, an easy to use subscription based automated medical alert service for the iPhone.*MDS is hematological (blood-related) medical condition that involve ineffective production (or dysplasia) of the myeloid class of blood cells. Patients with MDS can develop severe anemia and require blood transfusions.
